This Makes Me Happy

The fact that you can get this:

Kinja'd!!!

configured as follows: 4WD, V6, 6-speed MANUAL. With other decent options, basically exactly what I want for a little truck that can haul my family and also bikes, trash, rocks, firewood, skis, whatever, right in the bed, easily.

The want is STRONG. But not so much the want for a $500/mo payment. But at least this exists, and that makes me very happy. I’m not sure that if I won the lottery tomorrow, I wouldn’t buy this exact truck.

While it might be a $34k truck that gets the same mileage as a 1/2 ton but can’t do as much... f**k spending $40-50k on a nicely equipped 1/2 ton that I just don’t need. This is perfect.

Yeah no if I won the lottery tomorrow I’d be next on my local ford dealers waiting list for a 2016 raptor

I would spec mine with the TRD Offroad package, but pretty close to your's for the rest.

Since one of the main reasons I’d want a 4wd vehicle is to drive it on-road in Wisconsin winters, I place a premium on full-time 4wd systems with actual center differentials. Unfortunately Toyota has never seen fit to equip the Tacoma with such a system even though it has been offered on the Land Cruiser, 4Runner, Sequoia and associated Lexus variants. So...if I were getting a compact/midsize pickup I’d go for a GMC Canyon since it’s the only one with full-time 4wd.

I want the 2016 Duramax Canyon to be available with 4x4 and manual. 'Nuff said.

I might do that too - I just played around until I could get 4 full doors (kids) and a manual transmission. The SR5 doesn’t offer that combo.

that front end is just no.

doesn’t fit the rest of the truck.

I was just playing around with this configurator. There are some interesting quirks, like you can’t get an SR5 in any color but gray without the $1500 “appearance package” or that if you want a limited in another color than black you have to buy the tonneau cover package.

God I hate stuff like that. I mean, I understand why they do it (some of it), but I kinda feel like if I’m ordering a new car, I should be able to get exactly what I want. Maybe if you’re willing to a) pay full price and b) wait a while, then you can. I don’t know; never purchased a new car - and I’m not sure I ever will!

I don’t know, I like it. But I like every Tacoma ever. And I’ve never had one, nor has anyone in my family... strange I guess.

With regards to the Tonneau package, it was a stipulation from the EPA that Toyota sell a certain percentage of trucks with the cover to meet their claimed mileages

Hmm, a good point. But I think I value a manual transmission over... a lot of reasonable things. I mean, a suburban would be better suited to my needs. Actually, a Toyota Land Cruiser would probably be the best “lottery” vehicle for my current and future needs. Hell, if I bought a new Land Cruiser, my kids would be taking it to college with them, and they’re 1 and 3.

I’ve seen those around and they look good in person. Nice size, too.

Part of my problem is I HAVE a half-ton pickup already. It may be a 1972, but if I need to move that big sectional couch, I’ve got a vehcle for that already. So I would love a smaller pickup for a DD. Mostly I take the kids to school and go mountain biking and take trash to the dump.

Ha!

Back in the 80’s and early 90’s, my grandfather ordered several consecutive Chrysler minivans with manual transmissions. I’ve since wondered whether that was a real “special” order, or if they really offered it as an option that basically no one ever chose. I think ever since then I’ve been bothered that I couldn’t get, for example, power windows AND a manual transmission, in those cases where manuals are only on the lowest base models.

I’m a big stickler for full-time 4wd. I don’t go 4-wheeling, mudding, rock crawling, or other “real off roading” type activities. I live in suburbia and I just want something that won’t get stuck in the snow.

My completely-overkill solution is a Grand Cherokee with Quadra-Drive II (all 3 diffs are electronically-controlled LSDs) and General Grabber AT2 tires which are rated for severe snow duty.

Here’s a thought: the manual transmission FJ Cruiser has full-time 4wd, and an optional rear locking diff. The automatic FJ is stuck with part-time 4wd.

Hadn’t realized Ford was going to build the ranger again.

Wait a minute. That’s a Tacoma! Hadn’t realized Toyota was starting to use the Ford/Aston grill now too.
